old dell inspiron 1100 wireless issue

Hello,
I have an old Dell Inspiron 1100 that my daughter used in school afew years back.
Six months or so ago we got a Belkin F5D9230-4 wireless router. It worked fine up until a few weeks ago, then, kaput, no connection.
Spent almost 5 hours on the phone to techs from Comcast, Belkin & Dell.
Bottom line, Dell wanted about $70 to fix it.
The Belkin folks said I needed a "wireless zero configuration patch" installed.
I just don't get it. Like I said it worked for 6 months, then nothing.
I know little to nothing about this sort of thing, but would appreciate any help with this matter at all.

The Dell folks tried to do it remotely, but they had no luck.

Tried to download patch from Microsoft.com....said it was already installed....now what?? help please?

reinstalled software, works fine now.
