partition wont boot

i was upgrading to a newer build but it was not a bootable cd so i clicked the auto run icon not noticing that my anti virus was off the sys instantly shut down when i restarted it, it restart right before it reaches the welcome screen i would have just formated it but i have some important files so i went and install and older xp sp2 on the same partition so i can use the pc. Oh!!!! i also tried booting in safe mode and that doesn't work either

What happens when you boot Safe Mode? Can you boot Safe Mode in Command Line mode?

it just restarted. and none of the safe mode works

And you've taken the CD out, right?

Here's what I hear. You have a new build and you are using an old drive that has an OS on it. If that is the case, you cannot do that. The OS drivers don't match the new motherboard.

i was running a black edition 4.0 sp2 and was now trying to install black edition 7.0 sp3 when i click the auto run icon a virus from the cd shutdown my sys

How do you know it was a virus? What's a black edition 4.0?

You may be able to burn a copy of Knoppix Linux and boot from that CD. Then you can figure out a way to disable the virus by killing the file.

i am not really sure but what else could have done that. And "black edition 4.0" is a build xp pro with vista transformation pack and a lot of other software and stuff. The linux Knoppix Will work with the windows
