Question
Compressing converted dvd video

I download some video files from a website which play well using windows media player, the video files plays for 1 hour at most, after converting the files to DVD the files size for each video was about 6.5GB and the original file is far less than 1GB. However, if I order the video on CD'S from the organisation that put the files for free download on their website it takes 2 CDs each which is about 1.4GB.
How can I compress the DVD file to 4.7GB or lesser?

Welcome to TechIMO!

The videos you are downloading are probably encoded with MPEG-4, H.264, or similar. The DVD standard uses the older MPEG-2 video format, though with that said, one hour of common resolution DVD video certainly should not require 6.5GB of data storage.

The quick solution is to turn down the video encoding bitrate. Sounds like whatever conversion utility you are using is utilizing an extreme MPEG-2 bitrate, which can quickly inflate file size.
