| Wireless limited or no connectivity issue
Good day everyone, I am hoping someone can help me out with this issue I've been having for a week.
Here is part of my laptop specification
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501
Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) SP1
Bios version 2.4.1
Processor: Mobile AMD Sempron processor 3500+, ~1.8 GHz
I had this laptop for almost two years, and it has performed well keeping me online and such. Now... not so much.
I have noticed however that it seems to randomly disconnect from my home network, when the icon on the taskbar shows" limited connectivity". Attempting to refresh/reconnect results in " no available networks" which is only remedied by restarting. Turning wireless on/off doesn't work. In all other aspects however the network works- file and internet sharing, LAN gaming etc.
The wireless router I normally use is a Linksy Wireless G WRT54G VR currently displaying channel 1 (Used to be channel 6 and 11 when I started having problems). Two other laptops are able to connect no problem. I can connect with no problem, but for some reason, I assume my wifi is failing me for some reason. If I am in a different location, I will have no issue.
Other helpful things:
I recently created a static IP address
I recently port forwarded to play an online game. The port forward is now reversed since I am having issues.
I use WPA personal and I can connect no problem when computer starts up.
The driver my wifi use is up to date.
There are no cordless phones around me only a microwave, but even if the microwave is far away, I still have issue.
I live at an apartment where I can view at least 12 different other wireless network.
If more information is needed, let me know. |

You said you recently created a Static IP, is this on the Laptop in question? If so, are you sure you put the static IP on the wireless controller and not the wired one?
The reason i ask this is because in every case i have seen this error, DHCP stopped working properly. In my experience, it is common to happen with linksys routers over 2 years old that still have the linksys firmware. |

On a side note, make sure the router does not use the Wireless Network Name (SSID) of linksys which is default on many linksys routers, give it a name nobody else would use. It may be possible there could be conflict. |

| I have an SSID.. but what's weird is that the name of the SSID is called PWNZIN VEGGIES. But when I looked on the lower left of the screen of my monitor to see what I am connected to. It would say The Rabid Unicorn (PWNZIN VEGGIES).
Also, Since I did system restore, the static IP address that I placed reverted back into "obtain IP address automatically"
Still, my connection is still having problems. (Same one) |

| Also, I have updated the Linksy firmware today. I am still having issues. Thank you for the response. |

I would set it back to static ip
before doing so
go to start -> run -> cmd
black screen, type in ipconfig /all
Note your IP address, gateway and DNS
Your IP will probably be 192.168.1.100, i would suggest using a static IP of 192.168.1.2 or around there, do not use 100 - 150 since it is DHCP default.
Make sure you set this in the wireless settings and not Local Area Connection is will likily be the wired lan.
You may also try a 128 bit WEP key for security.
Also can you confirm the other 2 laptops are using DHCP or Static and currently work? They are also connected to the right network and not one of the other 12? |

I use nothing but Linksys routers, hae one just like yours ( good ,ove updating the drivers/firmware ) Amd, I Agree with Kuurus, you have a DHCP issue somewhere in the router ( most likely ) Forget their tech support unless you have a couple of hours to waste and do NOT try the online chat. Last chap I spoke with when I was cascading routers was in Calcutta but his name was Rikki,,,,
Check your BASIC wireless settings in the router.
Good Luck.

It says DHCP Enabled ............... No. So does this need to be enabled? How can I enable this? |
