| Cat5 Cable with Cat5E connectors
I had to remodel after Hurricane IKE flooded my house and I ran Cat5 cable througout. I picked up some connectors at Home Depot and when I got home I found on the box that they are Cat5E; Can i use these on Cat5 cable or do I need to get Cat5 connectors? Also, what is the difference between T568A and T568B? Which do I use? |

If by connectors you're talking about he little part that plugs into an rj45 jack, you'll be fine. The difference between T568A and T568B is just that they are two different wiring standards.
Pick one and stick with it. Neither has an advantage imo over the other.

Agreed.
Even if a 5e stak-on end was different from a 5 (and I doubt it), the 5e would be better.
I believe T568B is the most common, because every parch cable I have ever had was T568B, But like batmeat said just pick one and stick with it.
If you ever do buy a T568A patch cord It will still work, because the important thing is that both ends of the cable are wired with the same standard, not the whole system, but I always keep the whole system the same .

Thanks for the info! I kinda figured that if you started using A or B that they should all be A or B consistently. As an electrician I tend to call anything a connector. I actually mean the female jacks that will be snapped into a wall plate. Now that I think about I am going to need make some male extensions to go between the PC and wall jack. Damn! More work... |
