| Asus M4A78-E 790GX + OCZ Reaper (2x2GB)
Hi all this is my first build and I tried turning on the computer all the fans come up but no display or bios. I called asus and the person from tech said it might be my memory. He said the memory I'm using OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB ocz2rpr800c44gk is not listed in the owners manual. Even though its not listed in the book shouldn't it work since its a pc2 6400? I don't have an internal speaker because the case or MB didn't come with one. I'm just trying to figure out if these memory sticks I have would still work if not I'll go buy ones that in the manual and also pick up an internal speaker. |

I can't speak for this particular case, but memory incompatibility happens all the time.
Just because all the specs are exactly the same doesn't mean it is compatible.
The only way to tell is if that memory works in another computer, or go with the Asus List

If you know the codes it might give a no memory signal, but it might not also.
What is your BIOS? Computer Post / Beep codes
Edit:
Did Asus have you reset the CMOS and check if the reset jumper is in the normal position? Just a thought.

My book says " One continuous beep followed by two short beeps then a pause (repeat) " its no memory detected, but my question is if the memory is in and doesn't work for my board would it still give me a no memory detected? |

In order to look up the beep codes you need to know what brand BIOS you have (Award, AMI, Pheonix, ect).
Since you have the beep codes, you don't need to know.
There is a jumper on the board to reset the BIOS to default settings usually called CMOS.
Look it up in your manual, follow the directions to clear.
Also make sure it is in the right position, I've seen boards shipped in the clear position, instead of the run position.
Edit:
Try the computer with no memory sticks, and see what you get for beeps, then 1 stick at a time and see what happens.
BIOS beep codes aren't an exact science, so you never know what you will get.

If in the run position would that cause no display, but thank you so much. I will let you know how it goes when I get home. |

Clearing the CMOS is just to make sure the BIOS is set to factory defaults, It is just one of the things you try when troubleshooting.
Coming from the factory it probably is set to factory defaults, but you never know. |
