| upgrade motherboard for Intel
Hi,
I have problems with an Intel® Desktop Board D915GAV. Some PCI slots not working, slow system and have eliminated all software and other hardware issues.
Board has
ATX form
LGA775 socket
DDR - 400 and 333 MHz; dual channel support
I would like to replace the board but as it is discontinued, am uncertain which could be a direct replacement? Suggestions welcomed. |

rich beat me to it, I was doing some searches on other sites for boards while typing this...
keep in mind those boards will require RAM upgrades as well, the OP is running DDR, not DDR2.
also What CPU is the OP running, the 915 Chipsets are Quite old. and with DDR memory instead of DDR2 I'm willing to bet its an old Pentium 4 Single Core CPU... for the price of the first board you posted, they might as well upgrade their entire system if they are to spend $135 on a new replacement board.
step up to a cheap $40 range board, low end Dual core, 2GB DDR2, and see if they can use all their current Drives, and peripherals with that set up.
their best bet would be to run a G31 board, but then again that is a DDR2 board as well... Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Motherboards,Intel Motherboards,LGA 775,Intel G31/G33/G35
this site has quite a few 915 boards to look through: PacificGeek.com - Motherboards
cheap prices as well, they use the same supplier as Geeks.com I think as well (Geeks for some reason is down right now, was up last night, but I just tried Pinging them and can't, so their site must be down again).
in general Geeks.com is usually a bit cheaper on some items than Pacificgeek is.
but its worth a look at those boards, see if any of them fit what is needed, or even if you can find an exact match

Thanks for that so far. It is P4 3Ghz, upgrading memory is no problem and I guess it would make sense to fit a more current board with Gigabit LAN, even though I have a PCI ethernet card. How easy is it to get the processor out? Could not see how to get the fan off so far, but now doubt plenty on-line to help with those minor issues. |

If you are using the stock cooler.
You twist the four black thingys (lol, very technical me ) 90 degrees counterclockwise (I think). they should be able to pop up about half a centimeter and then you can lift it straight off.
To take the 'cpu' out there will be a little lever to lift up then open metal cover and 'cpu' will just lift out.

Cool Aaron. Can you recommend an on-line supplier in UK? Living in france but need English BIOS. Was previously in Holland and had a good supplier there but they can't be bothered to post to France. |
