Can see Desktop on TV but not video within the media player window

I Have an LG LW65 Express computer and have connected it to my CRT television with a S-VHS cable. I am able to see my desktop on the TV and can see any media player window such as Windows Media Player or VLC on the TV but can not see the movie I am playimg on my laptop within the window on the TV?? I have a Toshiba laptop which displays movies on the TV so I know I don't have a problem with the TV. Is there some setting I need to make on my LG laptop to be able to play images on my TV?
