    Unhappy Need to recover files

I have a toshiba laptop, windows vista ultimate.
The system crashed after I was trying to uninstall an program which instructed to restart to complete the uninstall. The system never returned, it loops constantly. I can see a blue screen but cant read it. I tried to restore to a previous working date, but it didnt take.
I really need to recover my files.
Is there a way to do this or is it too late for me?

You can place the hard drive in an external enslosure and easily get your important files off of it.

Is this the point at which you realise that data can only be important if it is backed up...??

I've said it many times before, but if anything isn't backed up, then you can't say that it is/was important....

Anyway, as Steve has stated, you should be able to get the data off if you put it into an enclosure and attach it to another machine...

Let us know how you get on...
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...

You could also try a bootable CD with recovery tools on it. The "Ultimate Boot CD for Windows" is one that doesn't have illegal software on it while Hiren's Boot CD does have some copyrighted stuff on it as well as some Freeware. Some bootable Linux CDs like Knoppix also have tools that are useful for recovering Windows.

You may also be able to boot from the Vista install CD and use its own tools to set your Vista installation back as it was before the problem, but you had to have been saving "restore points" for this to work.
