I have a question about my last build. The mobo is the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P. I only put in one GPU and though it's OK it needs a boost. I found one hell of a deal on new graphics cards on eBay and I am wondering if you can put two different graphics cards on the same mobo.
And if so, do I need to do anything or will the mobo recognize the fact it has two GPU cards and take over?
Thanks, |

If you are folding on it, then stick to one kind, 250/250, 275/275, etc... don't do say a 260 and a 275. The higher will down clock to the lower.

JJ,
That makes sense. With some of the prices I am seeing on ebay I may buy 2 new of the same and get the Radeon 4890 out of that machine. It does not seem to be that fast.
Even though I am still at 29 I got passed by Sarah_Lee yesterday then I passed Mike Hof,,never been passed before. I am going to mail her and see if she will tell me what she is running.
The contribution is key but the rankings are fun.
Thanks for the input. |

not sure if she's still over in Afghanistan or if she's back yet, Black Dragon might know that info, but I know Harder posted about BD having some medical issues related to our cause so not sure how he's doing.
as to the 4890, if you can justify building a small cheap rig for it, it should still net you a good 3 to 3.5K at least, only reason ATI cards aren't doing as well, is because the current GPU client is optimized for the way Nvidia cards process data, but supposedly they are trying to work on building a Client for ATI's method of processing which is newer anyways, hopefully they'll have 2 clients for each companies products soon... I'd hold on to my 2 Radeon 4870's and 4830 but for what I can sell them for I can get a single new Geforce card or two and run them in my rigs. otherwise I'd love to build a cheap rig or two to use the things, but that comes down to more space being used as well as power with 1 or 2 more rigs plugged into the wall LOL... heats not an issue for me, especially in winter , but the other cons are.

Not much... the black editions have an unlocked multi to aid in overclocking.... Unless you plan on doing any (overclocking that is), save your money and pick up the standard 3.0ghz ver.....

Okay just throwing in my bit of knowledge
Dual core and Quad core vs Single Core Computing
Think of it like three roads, one has one dumptruck, another two and the third one four. they are all traveling at the same speed (2.13Ghz) So they will all get to the same point at the same time. However the road with two dumptrucks will get twice the work done than One and the one with four will double the Dual and quadruple the single ones amount of work.
So its not like a 2.13ghz dual core is 4.26ghz total computing. this also explains why sometimes single cores beat duals and quads if the program isn't written for multi core processing |
