Computer turns on then off again

Hi, my friend's computer just took a dump on us. She said that for a couple weeks it would turn off or freeze after only 40 minutes...then things got worse and it would begin turning off and on when trying to start it. Now the computer will not even turn on

Unfortunately I have no specs for you, but any help in pointing us in the right direction would be most appreciated

First thing to check, does the computer need cleaning? Therefore overheating.

Memory can be tested.
Memtest86 - Download Page

Hard drive can be tested with HD manufacturers disk, downloaded from their sight.

More info needed for more help. Specs are needed also.
