| Need Assistance Overclocking and Raid 0 Setup
Hello Techimo,
I have never done an overclock before so I was looking for some assistance so I don't ruin my computer.
Current Setup: Asus M3A78-Pro Motherboard
AMD Phenom II x4 940 Quad Core Processor @ 3.0Ghz
8GB G SKILL DDR2-@1000Mhz 5-5-5-15 Dual Channel Memory Kit
BFG GTX 285 OC Edition Graphics Card
OCZ Gamestream 700W Non-Modular Power Supply
2x Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB
Scythe Mugen 2 Heatpipe CPU Heatsink
Innovation Cooling IC7 Diamond Thermal Compound Paste
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition 64BIT
Scythe Ultra Kaze 120MM 3000RPM
This is what I would like overclocked:
I need full detailed instructions on how to overclock each of these components including all of the settings and test I will need to do. Please provide as much detail as possible in your answers as this is my first time overclocking! Quote: |
8GB G SKILL DDR2-@1000Mhz 5-5-5-15 Dual Channel Memory Kit
| Currently these come stocked at a speed of 800Mhz. I am looking to overclock this 8gb kit to 1000Mhz in Dual Channel Mode (which I believe is better than single channel) I have read that it will require 2.1v to achieve this speed but I do not have an option for a 1000Mhz clock speed in the bios (only 1066Mhz) Quote: |
AMD Phenom II x4 940 Quad Core Processor @ 3.0Ghz
| Currently running at stock speed of 3.0Ghz. Looking to get around 3.6Ghz on Air Cooling while running stable in games. If that is too much to ask for then just tell me a good clock speed I can achieve. I am not sure if this is the "Black Edition" of the CPU (unlocked multiplier) or the "Standard Edition" of the CPU but I can find out if its an issue. Quote: |
2x Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB
| I have always used a single hard drive but this time I am looking to go for a Raid 0 setup with my 2 hard drives. I have no idea how to accomplish this so I would need instructions and all settings needed. Quote: |
BFG GTX 285 OC Edition Graphics Card
| This came stock overclocked from the factory but if I could push this any further I would like too. Current speeds during 3D applications according to CPU-Z are: Core: 666Mhz
Shaders:1512 Mhz
Memory: 1242 Mhz

Cant help you with the oc part, but if you look in your motherboard manual it will tell you how to setup the raid for your hard drives |

Well. Its not too hard. But you want to make sure you have a good cooler first.
Yes and your CPU should be a Black Edition. Simplest way to check is to go into the BIOS and see if you can set your multiplier to anything above X15. Your base clock speed is 200Mhz (200 x 15 = 3Ghz). Set the multiplier to X17 and bump up your CPU vcore to 1.475v (to get you 3.4Ghz). I got a 940 X4 stable at those settings once.

Hello,
I have an Asus M3A78-Pro motherboard and I was wondering how I would go about setting up a Raid 0 Array.
I didn't see any drivers on the Asus Website for Windows 7 so am I screwed? |

You shouldn't need drivers from the bios select storage configuration then on chip sata channel and set that to enable for sata type set it to raid and go from there. You'll need to reinstall your os.
As for OC'ing make sure you bump your speeds up slowly, make sure you turn off quiet and cool, make sure you lock your pci-e freq to 100 and then easy the setting up. I usually start with a mid point to what my goal is then slowly bump it from there.

| Asus M3A78-Pro Raid 0 - Phone Response
I called Asus and they told me that since there were no drivers out yet for Windows 7 Raid Controller for my Mobo that I couldn't run a Raid 0 setup.
Well I bought 2 hard drives so running Raid 0 was what I wanted and I am hoping to do a fresh Install of Windows7.
Is it possible to run a Raid 0 setup without the Windows 7 Raid Controller Driver for my mobo? Asus M3A78-Pro Motherboard

If you dont have the driver, the raid will not be recognized |

I saw there was an M3A78 (non pro) Windows 7 driver for a Raid Controller. Is that the same?
Also someone told me that an Intel Raid Controller is built into Windows 7 |

When I duel booted win7 to my xp pro raid o it didn't ask for a raid controller, it just installed and it workd just fine.
Suggestion:
Take out your current HDD and put the 2 hew HDDs in and create the raid array then image the old drive to the raid array, (the tricky part is next) then do a repair install of winxp and watch for the first screen and make sure you press F6 and have your raid driverFloppy handy, after you get it running do a duel boot with win7.
If this won't work for you, you haven't lost anything you still have the original setup and this should get you going untill Asus builds the drivers.
