Weird symptoms after installing new CPU

So I upgraded to a Phenom II X4 955 last night. Turned on my PC and after my MSI logo, a message appeared something along the lines of' insert boot media and press a key or reboot and select a boot' or something like that. So I rebooted and it worked fine...for 10 minutes. All my programs froze, so I restarted again. This time my MSI logo stayed there for a minute or so ,then the same message appeared no matter how many times I rebooted.

Today I fired it up with no problem, my CPU temps at 26-33 C idling. Normal for a quad core? But does anybody know what was going on with this? Is it the HDD acting up? I also notice programs take a little longer to load and things will freeze slightly when I first open them. Thanks for the help.

The first symptom sounds as if your system could not find a boot disk. I can't comment on the freezing. Perhaps you should run chkdsk.

*UPDATE*
The problem was with the harddrive (Hitachi) which recently failed on me. I upgraded to a WD Green Corsair 1TB drive, and will be adding an intake fan to cool it down alittle better.

Cooling is of major importance for that CPU... If i recall, it draws 140watts.
