my computer is not coming on, the lights come on but the screen is black, you can hear the hard drive working but nothing is coming on screen. Because i do not know how to repair it i do not want to start taking it apart in case i do more damage.

Can you get into the BIOS?
If the screen shows nothing, and you can't get into the BIOS, and you are not familiar with laptops, about all you can do is check the memory.

If it has more than 1 stick, try 1 at a time, or test it in another computer.

Complete as you can get specs are needed.
At the very least, brand name and model number.
