Fire in DVD

I just built a computer and used SATA connections from the Power Supply to the HDD and the DVD Writer. As soon as I turned the computer on for the first time, it immediately shut off. So, I took off the side and disconnected all the externals (Mon, Keys and Mouse) and plugged it in to see what was going on. As soon as I started it again, a flame came out the back of the DVD (refurbished) player so I immediately turned it back off. The connector from the Power Supply was destroyed. I disconnected it from the DVD and turned on the computer again and nothing else burned up. Why would this have happened?

That's a good question. You can't exactly plug in a SATA power cable incorrectly. I'd assume a manufacturing defect in the DVD drive. Perhaps a short circuit.

Thank you. Being refurbished, that's probably what it was.
