| hey this is me again wit another PROBLEM, im full of em!! okay im at my friend Ashleys house and her AIM wont Direct Connect, maybe you ppls know what im talkin about so if u do please try to help! its a Toshiba Pentium1 Notebook, kinda old. er internet connection is thru AOL so maybe that clues u in on how i might have a problem. but who knows...

there is a setting in aim in prefences> Im Image at the bottom you might try checking the box with something like use different address if using Aol. |

Well, that is all I have found thus far, what as mentioned above. Have you checked to make sure the computer you are trying to connect to is accepting the connection? I know it sounds simple, but gotta knock out the obvious first. I'll keep looking. Oh, and I don't know if it would make a difference, but are both the newest version of AIM? |

This is kinda off topic but I see "I Dunno NEthing"'s message text in a different font than the standard one. Anyone else see this? Her reply a couple posts down shows up in the normal font.

I've had several contacts who cannot direct connect because either they are using an older version of windows, aol or there on a mac. I'd say that's probably the reason. Find out what operating system she is running and when you try to direct connect , find out the OS on the other side. I run XP and I cannot connect to several people running older version of AOL, and Win. 95.

also there isp side might be running some sort of firewall or filter. there are serveral people i can connect to, and others i can't for some odd reason |
