Question about my laptop

Hi. I'm new and don't know where to post this thread. I have a question. My hp laptop (have had since 06) recently stopped working. Now makes a loud beeping noise, followed by two other ones. Screen doesn't go on, but everything else you can hear still running.

I was wondering if the motherboard was the issue, and if I don't decide to replace it and sell it instead, was wondering

Is personal data stored on the ram and motherboard? I plan to not include the hard drive if I do sell it.
