HELP... Why does my new DVD rom see audio CD's as Data CD's????

I have a new Liteon 165 DVD ROM that is meant to be faster than almost anything at digital audion extraction.

The problem is that windows can only see the first track on any audio disc & Musicmatch tells me that all audio discs in that drive are data discs.

This is really starting to annoy me!!

Thanks for any help.

have you tried a different program? It could just be musicmatch..I know I've had problems with it in the past.

Put it temporarily in another machine and see if it works fine there. If it does then you can be pretty confident its a software problem. If it dont work then you know you will need to replace it.

Are these "original" or "copy" audio CD's? Could be whoever/ whatever recorded them, did it wrong. Also, are they the "enhanced" CD's that have videos on them as well?

Make sure you have a good Aspi layer installed. I had a similar problem with XP and the Liteon 165..

My ASUS 50X CD rom sees a normal music CD
My old 4X Mitsumi CDR sees a normal music CD
My new Liteon DVD sees a 1.99GB "music CD" with 1 track that won't play.

I have installed ASPI.

Now What??? New Drive??

Thanks,

pk

BUMP^^^^^

Thanks for the help but it does not seem to have solved my problems.
Surely omeone must have another idea!?
I doubt that a drive could read/recognise a data CD but not an Audio one. Surley it must be some sort of software/bios/driver problem.
Here is some more detail

ASUS K7M MB. 550 athlon classic... NO Overclocking.

Windows ME.

latest recommended VIA 4 in 1 Drivers.

BIOS Update to latest (132.... august 2000)

Liteon firmware update(June 2002...CH0H)

Latest Adaptec ASPI Layer.

Data CD's/CDR's are recognised for what they are (i.e. ~650 MB)

DVD's are fine.

Music CD's show up as you can see in the link below. 1.99GB!!??
I have tried various bought & homemade music CD's..all with the same result.

I have tried the drive in the onboard ide socket & in a promise ata66 card with the same result.

This is what I see in MY Computer

This is annoying the !@#^ out of me.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks,

pk
