Kazy Virus Removal Help
My computer just recently became infected with "TR/kazy.mekml.1" virus. I did a search on google, and found a tool that claimed to remove it. Spybot wouldn't get it. Malware-bytes and adaware wouldn't get it either. Even Avira wouldn't get it, and that cost a lot of money! So I paid for the tool in the link I found on google. "SpyNoMore" I ran it, it found like seven things. Removed them, but still having all the same issues.
The virus made every folder "hidden" and even though I went to control panel and selected show hidden folders, it wouldn't work. I had to go through individually and select properties on each folder. And they are all set to "read only" also. When I go to start button, programs list, there was nothing. I went to properties, and found the start-up folder was hidden also, changed that. All the programs show up now, but every single folder is empty? Start > All Programs > Adobe > EMPTY
I've found every single thing on my computer, all programs ARE there in c:/program files. All folders ARE there like my documents, etc...
My computer has two accounts. One account the desktop is just a solid color, without a single icon. No matter what I do, I cannot right click the desktop for properties. I can right click the tool bar down below though. And if I go to display in control panel, it still won't let me change the desktop. There are a list of images to select, but I can't even scroll on it. Just allowed to select a drop down color. On that account, I can't get any icon on the desktop either. I tried to drag and drop but it won't allow it. You get the circle with the / through it when you hold the icon over desktop. If you "explore all users" and select desktop, all the right icons are there, they just don't show up.
Now on my other account, I managed to set desktop back, and manually put back all my icons/folders. And internet got working again once I realized the virus had just changed my proxy settings from auto detect to some random thing.
The most frustrating part of this is being behind a router, two firewalls, and nearly 200 bucks in anti-virus/spyware/adware programs on the computer that won't fix it.
I really don't want to do a fresh windows install, I mean everything is here and it works, it's just all funky.
I think the virus is gone though. Originally I was getting a fake error message you couldn't "X" out. Saying, critical hard drive error. The a link to buy this product to fix it. Haven't got that anymore.

Did you run Malwarebytes/Spybot in Safe Mode after turning Off System Restore?

I'll give that a try. On a side note, system restore will not work either. No matter how far I go back, like three months even, it says, cannot restore to this point no changes have been made. Even though tons of programs have been added and setting changed over that period.
