Abit Siluro GF4 MX440 & Windows XP

AMD Athlon XP1900
ECS K7S5A Motherboard w/sound/LAN
Abit Siluro GeForce4 MX440 64Mb DDR TV Out
512 Mb PC2100 RAM
Intel HAM hardware modem
Artec 40x12x48 CDRW
LiteOn 16 x 48 DVD ROM
Maxtor D740X 40Gb 7200rpm

Having a major problem with the above. Although I've successfully assembled three identical units previously, this one just won't work. I get Windows XP Pro installed ok then start to install drivers from the discs supplied. Sometimes I get all the drivers installed and it seems to work ok then I reboot and it gets so far then restarts. It won't even start in safe mode. Sometimes it gets as far as loading Windows then I get a message saying Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to shut down (which it does) then I'm left with a screen showing just wallpaper but no icons and no start menu. Previous symptoms include display settings changing to 4 bit by themselves, Windows XP theme (the one with the blue taskbar) being unavailable to one user but not Administrator. It's doing my head in, please help.

If this system is in use already check for the Klez virus as it causes such problems tool can be downloaded at http://www.symantec.com

Also try replacing the ram

I've run the Windows XP repair program (from the installation disc) and that seems to have sorted the problem (touch wood). Perhaps it's a matter of the sequence in which the drivers are installed (I've heard that can sometimes be a problem with the K7S5A mobo). Fingers crossed anyway.
