Welcome to TechIMO!
Unless it is about 8 or 9 years old, you shouldn't need drivers, at least that you have to load on your own.
I'm still in the dark ages, but I worked on a newer HP, last year, and had to change a setting in the BIOS to AHCI.
It was supposed to be changed back, after installation, but wouldn't boot, so I left it changed.
It has worked, ever since.
I found this, but it is not the same.

Is "SATA Native Mode" in the BIOS?
There may be another setting to turn it on, at least my desktop, has another setting.
I'd look at your BIOS myself, but as usual, you can't find it on the HP/Compaq sight.Last edited by stroyal; January 6th, 2012 at 03:36 PM.

I have checked the Bios Setting and have found no Sata Native mode, would that be under the config tab?
and a question about the first manual, it has a section Obtaining Sata device id from Win Xp
Could I use this process on the computer now (that has Win7) to obtain the driver and then use that driver for the Xp disc?
sorry for all the questions, just really wanting this to work
thanks
