Hi guys and thanks, I have one of these that died....
FSP Group Inc
Fortron/Source
Model No:FSP250-60MDN-120
and I want to replace it with this: NEW QUIET ACE BLACK EDITION 500W ATX PSU - MOLEX -SATA - PFC & 120mm FAN | eBay
ACE BLACK EDITION 500W ATX PSU - MOLEX -SATA - PFC & 120mm FAN
Is that going to work chaps? I don't mind pulling bits out and putting new ones in, I'm pretty ok at it for a middle aged old girl, lol, but there's so many power supplies out there, I'm just checkin' it'll work ok.
Rain.

No! NO! NO!
Welcome to TechIMO!
You are going from a quality Power Supply, even though it died, to what is probably a piece of junk.
Even good stuff breaks sometimes, but bad stiff, breaks all the time.
With a power supply, a bad one dying, can take your whole system with it.
Even if you could believe the 27amps on the 12v rail, it is way too low for a 500watt power supply.
The actual combined 12v is usually less, and them not posting that is a bad sign.
A real 500watt power supply will have a combined total of about 40 amps on the 12volt rail.
Here is out list of good and bad power supplies. Power Supply Info
If it is not on either list, you can assume it is bad, because all the good brands, are well know.
If you give us a short description of your computer, and what video card you are running, we can tell you what size power supply, you should have.

Ok chaps, thanks for answering, but see the problem here is it was very helpful of you to tell me about quality, but I need to buy one I can afford.
From your two posts, only one on ShyguysXPC's page appears stroyal's list, and it was £45.00 - which is a bit different to the £15ish I was hoping to spend - as in one is do-able and the other isn't going to happen. It was only a Freecycle (second hand, free) computer
We did have a spare but I put it in my son's computer, I didn't have to buy that so it was a will it fit/won't it fit dilemma rather than a "I have to pay for something I hope it fits" kind of deal.
Will it fit guys? it isn't going to run NORAD, it's just got to cope with a bit of music and whatever the heck my husband does to Linux that occupies 20 of his waking hours, lol
I don't want to seem ungrateful, I appreciate your help and advice,
Rain

I suppose if the computer is not worth anything, then it is not a big deal if, the power supply fries it.
The old one is standard ATX, and the new one is standard ATX.
Other than the specific plugs, that is all you need to know, as far as will it fit.
(any plug can be adapted)
Going from a 300watt to a to a 500watt, should have enough power, even though that 500watt, is closer to a 375 watt in output.
If it doesn't have the power, it will run hot.
If it doesn't run hot, it should be OK, except for the smooth power, and computer protection.
Hay, we have all done it at one time or another, we just wouldn't do it now that we know, if the computer has any value.
It is the foundation of the computer, that everything else is built on.

Meh, I ran crap power supplies when I was having someone else build my PC's for me, even though I was picking out the hardware in the case, but once I started to build my own, I only chose quality name brand Units, Antec, Enermax, OCZ, PC Power & Cooling, Corsair, FSP, Seasonic, Silverstone, Coolermaster, Thermaltake, etc.

I still have the last bad one I bought.
Allied 400watt with a whopping 17 amps on the 12v
A real 400watt, puts out, about 30amps.
It never died, but ran hotter than a firecracker, with a Barton, and a 9700Pro.
And that was the pick of the liter.
All the other Allied 400Watts, on the market at the time, only had 16 amps on the 12volt rail, so I thought I was getting the heavy duty model. |

only 2 PSU's I have kick the bucket on me, was an MGE Vigor 500W (or maybe it was 550W), it had a decent review, nothing stellar, when it came out, and that unit lasted a long time, and never gave up. I bought a 2nd one for another system for a friend, and with in less than 6 to 9 months, it was sizzling and arcing, I found out the series of that model had actually changed manufacturers, and some of the internals had been skimped on.
Aside from that, the 700W OCZ GameXStream I had years ago, died after one too many Blackout/Brown Out, and Power Surges, after 3 or so years of use. It served its purpose, fried, and saved the entire PC.
Which I Can't say for a lot of lower crap brand units, had they been in that PC instead, good chance much of the hardware would of been fried as well.

Hit edit at the bottom of your post.
Cut and past works, like any other application, or forum.
You have to be in edit though.
