BIG PROBLEMS - Won' Start, et.al.

Hello and thank you for any help or suggestions. I think I have something really bad going on.

I'm a freelance writer so I depend on my computer for my livelihood. THANKS for your help!!

    Sony VAIO laptop
    Intel(R) Coire i3 CPU
    64 bit operating system
    Windows 7 Home Premium

NOTE: I ran HIJACK THIS. Results are PASTED BELOW!! Thanks

Here's what has happened so far:

    1. I had GREAT trouble starting the computer. After taking the battery out the second time, I got the computer to start. It suggested I run a startup diag/fix. I did but it couldn't help. Told me to restore.

Tried TO RESTORE but it said it can't work because my anti virus programs are on.

THATS WHEN i discovered the following problem:

2.My AVAST anti virus ISN'T working. The home page says, "The avast! antivirus program has been stopped, or is in an inconsistent state. Please restart the program to resume protecting your system. I RESTARTED it but got same message.

HIJACK THIS is pasted below. Thanks again, ya'll!

I recommended Avira. Avira Free Antivirus - Download Best Antivirus Software

And if you're going to download Avast at least grab it from Avast's web site. avast! Free Antivirus | Download Antivirus Protection Software

    UPDATE TO MY 'BIG PROBLEMS' . . . . .

I fixed all the Hijack This lines as directed.

    NEW PROBLEMS
    1. Out of the blue I got a few messages that my battery is very low (7%) WEIRD since I am PLUGGED in to power outlet.

    2. Odd thing with screen: As I am using the lapytop today, the screen is dimmed, just like it looks when I am using battery only. THEN XTRA-WEIRDLY, I moved the screen back a little to see better, and lo and behold, suddenly the screen got bright again for a couple of seconds. It ALSO got bright for a few seconds when I picked up the laptop to adjust it.

Doesn't that dim/bright screen stuff PLUS the incorrect battery info sound like there may be an issue with either the battery or with the communication between battery and computer??

    3. I do not hear the FAN running!! Hmmmmm......Problem there?

If there is an issue with any of these, can I fix the problem(s) myself? I'm not squeamish about getting inside of computers - used to be a computer teacher and I was always popping the cover off and working on Apple computers.

FINALLY - Is there a Support Service Plan that you'd recommend? I seem to have problems fairly often, and Techimo has been wonderfully helpful, but I feel bad that I keep asking for help again and again and again. Sony's Svc Plan is $299 - WAY too much for our family's limited budget.

THANK YOU, AS ALWAYS, SO VERY MUCH!

If you used an AMEX to purchase, they offer limited warranties with all purchases. Not sure the details and it varies from card to card.

300 isnt all that bad, check best buy for what they charge per tier on their service plans. 300 is probably any laptop over 700 bucks?

Either way, 300 bucks saves you hundreds to thousands over the life of your warranty especially since you seem to want/need it more than others. Id consider it the same thing as paying for home owners/renters insurace. You never WANT to need it but when you have it and you use it, its a life saver.
