| Another one bites the dust?
I've had it...
My firewall somehow decided to quit working.
P2/266
Asus KN97X MB
64meg ram
If I power it on, the drives spin up, the NIC's light up, but the keyboard does not, neither does the Monitor. Not getting any beep code...nothing..
I've reseated the memory, cards, and CPU...tried with just the vid card also..
This is the 3rd Intel POS that has crapped out on me in the past few months... no flames please
Any thoughts?? |

I presume no video signal to monitor, but does monitor power on? This is only relevant if monitor powered through PC p/s. I mention this because a dud p/s may give enough juice for some stuff but not all. Do you have another p/s to try? That would be my first check. If it's not p/s, I'd try to swap CPU and then mobo if I could. Unlikely to be RAM if no keyboard boot.
Good luck these are hard to troubleshoot sometimes.
Cheers

I don't suppose you have access to a POSTcard or a Port 80h card, but if you do it will help infinitely. |

yeah was thinking it sounded like the CPU to me too.. I'm running a P3 600 that is playing dead right now.. on a Asus p3v4x.. its the cpu in my case.. but it does the same thing u mentioned..
if u have a extra cpu swap it.. and check it out.. if u dont' c if a local shop has any...
if u can't find one. c if u can find a P Pro chip and board.. as that was a very good chip.. and would likely out preform that p2 hehe aazing thing those ealr intel P Pros..
u could also test other things as well.. I wouldn't leave the PSU out.. try another one.. b/c it cuold be that simple//

Do the capacitors on the MoBo all look like they're puking out burnt grease???

I think that capacitor-thing happens only with the Soyo Dragon!
No, I remember now, the Dragon's caps actually explode off the motherboard (as reported in some computer newsgroups)...they don't puke out grease.
Soyo is now including flak jackets for their product (in retail box mobos only, not OEM packaging).
So much for people telling ECS/PC Chips owners to get a QUALITY motherboard brand instead of the POS they currently own!

LOL! John C.
I am currently looking at an MSI 694D Pro ver 1.0 that has "sploded" caps. They didn't come off the board, but look like they're about ready to! BOOM! |

I did notice that a few days before that the power went off sometime or another.. and it was off when I came in. I tried to power it up and it did the same thing... So I unplugged it for a few minutes and it started working again....but not this time...I've tried many times trust me...

| Nope. I've seen it on ABIT, FIC & ASUS too.Quote: |

| This sounds like what happeded to my ABIT KA7. It has pronlems booting, then did on the second try. Next day it took three tries. The next, I tried ten times & nothing. When I tore it out, all the caps in the regulator section were fried. They leaked out goo, but they didn't actually "pop". |
