Direct TV and AT&T switch to comcast
I live in ST Lucie county Florida and I am considering switching to comcast for TV, Internet and phone service. I now use Direct TV and AT&T for these services. Will I lose TV reception quality or any such big negative changes

To save money. There are always promos to attract new customers , even Direct TV offers it but I have been a customer for 4 years and every couple of months there is a price increse on something. I'll take advantage of the Comcast promo. I have never used cable in Florida before. I was Dish then Drect Tv customer , hence my original question, but I observe that you don't reside in florida

Have you had any outages with AT&T? With cable they are prevalent. I'd stick to DSL. I have Comcast triple play btw.

prevalent outages with cable? I can't think of the last time my cable was out!

I have them all the time here. Do you have Comcast?
Edit- And BTW, we had an outage at the node just a few hours ago. A couple days ago the modem went dead at night too. This is a brand new modem! So it ain't me. Seems like we have shity service over here.Last edited by Taxmancometh; June 6th, 2012 at 09:11 PM.

Well, sounds like its just you, or your location. I know comcast can be really hit and miss in some areas. I've used comcast for years and other than intermittent issues when we first had our internet setup, which was related to our drop, I haven't had any complaints. Most outages I've seen have been due to traffic accidents, someone taking out a pole or something. But other than that they have been really reliable for me.
AT&T on the other hand was a nightmare. We had constant service interruptions. It felt like almost every week I was on the phone with customer support.

I had a lot of ingress in our drop too. It didn't affect the Internet but it did effect the TV.

Just my 2 cents...
DSL around here is slower and more prone to outages compared to cable. Back ten years ago the opposite was true.
IMO this varies as much by area as over time.

I have had Comcast for 2 years now with only 1 short outage that I can recall. I would have to say that they have it pretty well nailed down.

I am very happy with Windstream for 6Mbs DSL and unlimited phone for $117 a month. I was one of the first 100 Direct TV customers and love everything but the price. I have a 5 digit account number and get passed to their best engineering team if I ever have a problem. 4 HD TV's and receivers though = $180 month and that's just crazy for TV!

I have had Comcast triple play for the last six years and have repeated outages. Even changed the drop that runs from the tap to our house and got a new modem. I sometimes have to change the IP address. Most people don't even know how to do that and I feel bad for them.

I have the triple play as well. At least for now. My contract is up and every month the bill creeps a little higher.
That said, the only repeated problem I have had is with my on demand. Once in a while it stops working and I have to reset the box. No other repeat problems.
I guess as with anything else its all in where you are.Thread Killer
