Unhappy reboot and reboot and reboot

    Good day,

    Specs:
    Biostar G41-M7 Duo core
    500W PSU
    2GB Ram
    Windows 7

My GPU dead a month ago. Recently, i have saved enough money to purchase a new model, Asus N520gt Silent, at a reason price.
When i got home and fix this baby in with all the drivers and everything, my computer was rebirth... For 15 minutes... Then all hell break lose.
It started to reboot on its own. Since the first incident, every boot up last last than 5 minutes.
I have stripped her down with only mboard, ram and psu. Then i tried to boot from my flash drive with a ubuntu inside, it doesn't last 5 minutes!

Please help me. Give me some advice on what should i try next? Power problem? heat problem?

thank you so much much much

Is your pc randomly rebooting itself? You can go to

Control Panel->System icon->Advance tab->Startup & Recovery Settings button. UNcheck/disable the "auto reboot" option. Instead of rebooting you'll probably get a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) which can be searched on for a solution.

You can go to Advanced Search to search on for example: STOP 0x00000050

    Thanks for your advice.

    What i did so far.
So conveniently, i have another similar machine with me which is also a socket 775.
I swapped the processor chip to see if it was the problem.

Yet again.... it reboot by itself (MOBO, PSU, RAM and usb boot ubuntu) when it tries to load ubuntu. I tried to booth mini window xp too but nothing changes. (i tried changing rams too)

I moved my hard disk to another machine and boot it (to make sure is not windows playing tricks on me). Everything was fine.

Can i conclude that is the MOBO issue? What other things can i try?

    Thanks!

I would do the steps I outlined above... The BSOD will get you an Error Code that will point you in the right direction.

If it is hardware related, I would suspect Ram chips before I would the mobo.

    Good day,

I couldn't turn "disable auto reboot" initially because now i couldn't boot into windows. (About 20 seconds after the windows logo appear, the whole system will reboot. This happens when i try to boot up ubuntu too)
I took this hard drive, plugged into another system and "disable auto reboot" there. After which i plugged back to the faulty machine. Tried to turn on, but reboot once the windows logo appear during start up.

I am running out of ideas of what to test. Please advice.... Thanks alot

Control Panel->System icon->Advance tab->Startup & Recovery Settings button. UNcheck/disable the "auto reboot" option. you might get a blue screen of death, which will give you a code and then google that code and you might get the soloution

if all fails, try re - installing your os.

    Thank for all the advice.
Seems like everyone feels like is the os problem?
Its weird because i plugged this hard drive into another machine and everything works fine. I could play games and watch movie.
So do i really need to reinstall my windows?
The same problem happens when i try to boot ubuntu.

Or.... even post a photo of your BSOD...

And while you are at it, look at your capacitors on the motherboard to see if any are bulged or leaking. Since it won't boot into your alternate O/S - from the boot choice menu at boot up, I presume - then it's probably not Windows.

    thanks for all the advice.
I couldn't get the BSOD as it can't boot into windows. It will die off just when the window 7 icon appears.

Interestingly enough. Previously i have tired 2 different psu at 500W (1 definitely working as it is still in used on another machine) and it doesn't work. Recently, i was able to get hold of this 720W silent pro. Out of curiousness, i plugged this to my faulty system and guess what, it has been running for 2 days without problem.

One thing which i don't really get, why 500W doesn't work? hmmmm. Did i made any wrong settings on the way? The GPU i am using don't need any PCI-E power plug. Weird. haha.

Thank you everyone again for all the advices.
