Rain glitch

Remember the old CPU cooling software Rain ?

I put it on a system that gets a bit hot despite my efforts to cool it down.

I notice that when I turn Rain on, both the fans and the HD are noisier. The extra noise stops when I shut down Rain.

How is that possible ?

Because with rain running the CPU is using the HLT command to shut down the CPU if it's not needed. When this happens you then get a very slight voltage surge in the rest of the system, making fans speed up (or slow down when the CPU activates again). At least that how I understood it. I'm certainly no electrical engineer. And I'm not a doctor on TV either.

Yep, on my box I can tell exactly when CPUIdle is running or not by the revving-up of the fans.
