Unhappy USB that is no longer recognized on PC!!!

I left my USB in my PC and it was bent up when I went to use it again. Now, the end of the USB- I guess people call it the stem- is loose and it wiggles. I would like to know if it is possible to get the data off it even though it is no longer recognized by my PC. If I can't do it myself- and I mean if my tech saavy uncle can't do it- is there a place I can send it. My Whole Life Is On This USB and I Didn't Back It Up!!! PLEASE HELP ASAP! I'd appreciate any advice...

Sincerely Someone Who Could Really Use Your Help

Have you tried a PC different from your own just to rule out that's its not a problem with it?

I'm guessing you possibly snapped the stem loose from the PCB inside, meaning the memory on the stick no longer has a way of "talking" to the computer. It might be possible to take the device apart and resolder the connection.

There are a lot of data recovery companies out there. Just do a google search for them. Be prepared for some shocking prices, though. Some places will charge hundreds of dollars to do recovery work.

Hopefully you've learned a lesson about file backup. If you are around computers that have an active internet connection, I reccomend using a service like DropBox (free!) to backup crucial files.

    Good job, friend-of-friends!
