    A real life Whodunit!!!!

This one is a real mystery!!!!

I've been building systems for a long time now and I'm at a loss so; I need some help from the sleuths that frequent Techimo.

This is a conglomeration of parts; some given to me by my daughter and some new parts.

    Build:

    Biostar TH55XE Mainboard (New)
I5 CPU Stock Cooling (given to me)
    2 - GSkill DDR3 1333 4 gig (given to me)
Radeon HD 5870 (given to me)
    Thermaltake Smart M850 PS (New)

I put all the parts together outside the case (without HD) and it posted. Set up the Bios and turned it off; tried to turn the board back on but got nothing, no power.

Reset the Bios and it booted; shut it down and the same thing happened evertime.

I've tried replacing the MB, CPU, Power Supply and heat sink.

I've flashed the Bios, tried it inside the case as well as outside the case.

I've tried moving ram stacks and putting one then the other in; I have not tried buying new ram. Could that be the problem?????

I know through a process of elimination it makes sense but logically; why would I get as far as a windows screen if the ram is bad?????

    Sorry for the long post!

Thank you for your help in advance!

    Chef

You could try memtest 86 on the RAM you burn memtest to a CD and boot the cd, let it run over night. Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

there is a Memory test as an option on the post screen; I did run it for a while but, not overnight.

    It did pass.

You should let it run for a while - several passes (as you would get by running it overnight) would give a stronger result than a "it passed this time" check....and it can take a while to complete anyway...
I've seen the light... It was green, flashy and attached to a Network Interface Card...
Whenever someone says "You can't miss it", I invariably do...
