Local Only -- Intermittent Internet -- Vista

Just connected a Belkin N+ Wireless USB Network Adaptor to my old PC.

The PC is running Vista. Previously, it was connected via wire -- in the new location, no wire drop, so figured I would go wireless...

Wireless signal is fine -- my mac stays connected along with my phone...

The PC seems to be intermittent -- it will toggle between "local only" and "local and internet"

Have restarting, turned off QOS and IPv6

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Do you have the latest drivers from Belkin and not from the cd?

Do you have any firewalls running on the computer?

Do you have the latest firmware installed on the router?

Are you using kind of encryption for the wireless?

Checked for the latest driver -- said it was, but did not go to the Belkin site...

Latest firmware on router -- yes -- DSL router from Verizon...

    Encryption -- WPA2-Personal, AES

    Thanks!

Hrmmm. Airports work generally well like that. But just curious - I'm not an expert on this, GZ would know better - but maybe the Belkin wireless adapter just doesn't work well with that router? Have you ever had it setup with wireless to that router in the past? If so, can you try using the adapter on another system to test if it works well (drivers installed with the wireless adapter on another system, that is)?

Some wireless adapters can be fickle with what routers they work well with. My old dlinks don't work with anything but a dlink router. But I'm just guessing here... the problem might very well be on the PCs end. Trying to rule this out.

This is the first time for the PC to be wireless (USB wireless adapter) -- previously connected via wire.

Also first time for the PC to be connected to the router.

Have not had other issues with the router -- Mac, phones, and Windows7 laptop all seem to work fine...

Will try putting the wireless adaptor on one of the other machines to see if it is the problem...

    Thanks!

Turn off encryption and see if you have the issue

Also, try changing AES to TKIP. Make sure it is the same on the computer. AES is better/more secure but TKIP is a good 2nd choice. I have had computers that just would not work wifi on AES, change to TKIP and voila worked like a charm.
