optiplex 745
Hey there,
I've a dell optiplex745 where I am trying to install drivers onto the bios. I have been unable to load my os as I have been stuck messing around in the bios setup, I am now lost. I need to find out how to install drivers onto the bios. Also to have the system recognise my cd drive rather than the now outdated 3.5" disc drive (A). Can anyone help?

you don't/can't install drivers into the bios. All you can do with the bios is update it if one is available.
Drivers get loaded into the Operating System once its installed.
Some devices like a Driver Controller card or RAID card will have its own bios/firmware that can be accessed upon boot up, once your past the motherboards bios boot up procedure, but that is not installed on the Motherboards bios.
Simple process for the drives, disconnect the floppy drive, disable Floppy Seek in bios, and set the CD Drive as the 1st device to boot from (Should be an option for Boot order).i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Thanks Shyguy,
Have done that and understand about the os drivers. My further problem is this:
I have disconnected the floppy drive, I now have the cd/ dvd drive first in boot sequence. However upon start up I am being told that my cd/ dvd drive is not recognised by the system. All plugs are fine and where they're supposed to be.
I get a message telling me there is no recognisable device driver, the system is looking for a MSCD001. How do I install this? Remembering I have no operating system as yet

Optilex 745 issues
I have a Dell Optilex 745 I bought to mess around and learn about hardware and software etc.
Now, I have removed the floppy disk drive. Upon start up the computer will begin running through a boot process, it knows a cd is there. I have made the necessary adjustments in the boot order sequence.
However, I get a display message indicating that the system does not recognise any 'valid cd/dvd drive', and also that I require a mscd001.
Do I need to install a mscd001? and if so how do I do this without an operating system. I have a copy of a mscd001 file on cd. I would like to find out how I can install this.
A further message I get is that there is no mouse. and then I am given a cursor awaiting instructions for drive A. I can get a directory from drive A but do not know what to do from here. If anyone can assist with my query it would be appreciated .
Thanks....D.S.

A refers to a supposed bootable floppy to load system . ..Try to type after A:>\ , D:\ or E:\ then press Enter ... This should be the drive letter of your CD Rom . If A: changes to D or E , Then see if you can get into directory by typing D:\dir ... or E:\dir ..
If nothing happened and the letter A remained , it means your CD rom isn't installed into the system or maybe could be bad , or cannot read cd's well due to malfunction or age ...

I have one of the same model. Mine is the micro style. Which style case do you have? Dell has all the drivers that you will need on their website.
Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]
Just enter your service tag number and you'll find all the drivers for your motherboard and any bios updates if available.
You do have some kind of bootable media in the DVD drive, right?

message of thanks.
To de_day & JEROY,
Thanks for your assistance, its much appreciated. I have the micro style also, with easy access etc. it is however a very tight fitting case to work with.
I have managed to volley up through the drives A to B, I just have to check out Dell as you have suggested to find a suitable CD/DVD Driver. That, I think, is all thats holding me back...for now.
Thanks again.

Thats pretty bad, stopping to pose with a friend or someone while that crap is going on in the background. Peoples lives being destroyed, lives being taken, etc, and they have time to stop and pose...
