I'm working on my brothers sys. We added a ge3 and boosted his ram to 256 from 128. Well then the probs started- BSOD's (blue screen), spontaneous reboot, illegal operation errors, fatal exception errors, lockups/crash in game (half life/cs), lost connection to the internet (cable connection) are the most common. So we took the extra ram out (back to 128) and all was fine again. So it's not the vid card or drivers. We used PNY single side, then PNY double side, last but not least samsung double side to no avail. Here's the sys specs:
Windows 98SE
Pentium III 600mhz
VisionTek GeForce 3 Ti200
Intel CC820 Mobo (2 banks for memory)
256mb ram PC100 SDRAM (currently)
AT&T cable ISP
Thanks ahead of time for any help. |

Check the mobo specs on the manufacturer's webiste. You may need to upgrade the mobo BIOS in order for it to use PC133 RAM in an older mobo. Some don't support it at all. Check the mobo specs first.
The other issse may be timing, which may be able to be set in the BIOS, but maybe not per slot.
Sometimes you need matching RAM. Try two sticks of PC133 instead of 1 of PC100 and PC133 and see if that works, and try one stick of PC133 by itself to seee if that works.
Good luck
Cheers

i believe the board is vintage 1999. we bought and used pc100 because that's what was in it. if i'm not mistaken there was a prob running pc133 at the time of it's manufacture hence the use of pc 100. it's a well built sys and runs fine till we add the ram back. i will check the bios settings. |

Right off the bat, cut the CAS back to 3, if it's on 2.
If you can bump up the ram voltage a fraction of a volt (say 0.1v), try that. Might also try a smidgen more voltage to the processor.
Try the ram in each combination of slot/dimm possible.
