ZoneAlarm problem...
ZoneAlarm for some reason doesn't remember the settings that I set after I restart my computer. Whenever I access a program that uses the internet and that "balloon" pops up in the bottom right asking for its "rights", I hit "remember this answer the next time I use this program", but it only remembers it for a short time, then I have to hit the same thing again and again.
Is there a way I can get ZA to REMEMBER wut I hit? thnx...ThE GreatwhitE~

Sometimes the app trying to access the net also has a server request and it may be checked to ask about access. Make sure both are setup. Any screen shot?

Could be XP may have some issues with saving the settings. I have ZAPro so I don't know of there would be any of the same issues as with the free client. You can also check the settings file if you can find it and look to see if it is checked as read only. That could have a big effect on saving settings.

Why are you posting BMPs!?
JPEG or PNG is MUCH more efficient... BMP's are unneccessary in this world.

No -- sygate will remember your settings. If you check 'remember...' when it asks this _should_ work, but if this is the problem, then try:
'tools > applications' and then custom select 'allow' or whatever against the app. Advanced options allow more detailed rules.
If still no joy, then maybe it's best to set rules in 'tools > advanced rules' which will override the other preferences anyway.
(also, check your security level is set to 'normal')
anyhow, stick with sygate now you've changed from ZA -- it's much better IMO

Aha! I found this thread on the sygate site.
The problem is with XP (which i see u have from your majestic screenshot )
You need to close down the firewall *BEFORE* you close down windows, or it doesn't save any changes to the config.
Hope this works for you.

ZoneAlarm Problem Remembering Settings
I am having a similar problem with Windows 2000 and Service Pack 3 (SP3).
The work around I am using is to input any changes into ZoneAlarm, shut down ZoneAlarm and restart the computer.
Simply restarting ZoneAlarm may also work. I was troubleshooting remotely with one of our offices remote users.
The firewall settings and application permissions are still there after the computer has been rebooted. I have never seen this behavior with ZoneAlarm before. I suspect that is it a Microsoft patch (Service Pack or otherwise) that has caused the problem. Here is a cut and paste from several related internet postings.

CAN'T ACCESS THE INTERNET - ZONEALARM
If you have the Internet firewall software ZoneAlarm on
your computer you must temporarily uninstall it before
applying the SP-1 patch. If you don't uninstall ZoneAlarm,
and install SP-1, you won't be able to access the Internet
from that machine.
Microsoft has a Knowledge Base article on this: Q315041
though it's not clear if this problem applies to both
ZoneAlarm and ZoneAlarm Pro (we'd assume it does). We
could find nothing on the Zonelabs web site.
Microsoft recommends that you reinstall ZoneAlarm after
SP-1 has been applied and then reconfigure ZoneAlarm with
the programs you want to access the net.
Regardless of what the technical problem is, you can't help
but wish that Microsoft would co-operate more with other
companies in providing greater assistance and information
to their joint customers. It's anybody's guess whether
ZoneLabs itself is the source of the problem (we don't know
what's been happening behind the scenes), but it must be
said that Microsoft seems to be washing its hands of the
whole affair.

After making changes to your firewall settings, please shutdown your firewall before shutting down your computer. This is a known problem (at least with Win XP).
