| Speeding it up
My sister is running her HP Pavillion with Winderz ME. It's a 1.2GHz T-Bird and it has 128MB PC133 ram. Her HD is 55GB. Her computer is running very slow when booted into windows. I ran Norton Speed Disk and Norton Speed Doctor and the PC is still running slow. It takes a few seconds when you right click on anything for the menu to show up. It takes a few seconds for the start menu to show up when it is clicked. I shut down all running processes except Explorer and Systray, and it didn't help. Any ideas? (No virus either, I just ran NAV) |

Just a thought, but have you tried one of those resource monitoring / mem freeing programs? |

Another 128 megs of ram may help.

RAM is the universal answer for pickin up a lil speed..RAM is your ft lbs of torque and the CPU is your horsepower...the RAM gets ya there and the CPU keeps ya there. More RAM = getting there faster

Yeah, RAM is okay, but with a 128 in already it should't take a couple of seconds to do anything - let alone get a response from the desktop. I think something else is wrong.
You could run system monitor to see if it is taking a lot of CPU power to get things done. You might try and run some kind of program in DOS to see if you have power outside windows. That will tell if it is hardware bogging it down or windows. Then you'll know a little more. |

You could always back up your files, reformat, and try a clean install. Nothing like a fresh OS to speed things up. |

Windows ME is notoriously bad with memory also..........in fact it is just notoriously bad... period..... Windows 98 or 98SE is a much better operating system, compared to ME.
