I have installed XP dozens of times, and I've never had a hardware monitor in the system tray.
Are you sure it isnt a hardware monitor for your motherboard?

| Whatever it is, you can probably get rid of it by doing start>run>, running msconfig and unchecking it in the "startup" tab. Assuming it's not vital to the operation of the computer (highly unlikely), it should then be gone after rebooting. |

I believe it is there because I have a zip disp that is usb (as well as multiple other usb devices) plugged in. when I scroll over it, it says "safely remove hardware"... it looks like a little green arrow floating overs a grey box-like thing...
that help at all??

p.s. - it's my dad's computer.. not mine |

Laptop? If so that is normal. This is to protect some devices that require the removal part. On a Desktop PC it is uncommon.

Disabling the Icon is safe it is just there to turn off the device before removing it USB is hot swapable so no need to have the icon. |
