How can I update my right-click menu?

I run WinMe

A few years back I ceased using a certain AntiVirus program. If I right-click on a file, the menu STILL shows "virusScanner"

I searched the registry for that phrase [virusScanner], to no avail.

Besides, messing with the registry scares the h**l outta me.

Is there a tweak program that will enable a non-geek like me to "point & click" & thereby get rid of a dead entry on the rt-click menu? Probably not but it couldn't hurt to ask, right?

Aloha from Hawaii,
Bellgamin

A reg clean up tool should work. I'm jocking Norton's right now...but there are a few shareware/freeware products out there. You can try cnet and browse Navexpress to see what they have. HTH.

following is a regscript I have for adding functionality.
This one in particular allows me to right click a dll or ocx file to register unregister.

You should be able to figure out from there...

Code:
REGEDIT4

; This adds the ability to Right-Click on a .dll or .ocx
; and get the Register / UnRegister options.
;
; If it doesn't work for you, mail me and tell me about it.

; ==========
; .DLL files
; ==========

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dll]
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"
@="dllfile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dllfile]
@="Application Extension"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dllfile\Shell\Register\command]
@="regsvr32.exe \"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dllfile\Shell\UnRegister\command]
@="regsvr32.exe /u \"%1\""

; ==========
; .OCX files
; ==========

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ocx]
@="ocxfile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ocxfile]
@="OCX"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ocxfile\Shell\Register\command]
@="regsvr32.exe \"%1\""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ocxfile\Shell\UnRegister\command]
@="regsvr32.exe /u \"%1\""

; End
I put in bold the regkeys that should pertain to you.

Hmmm there is a catch...

The regkey explained up there was created as a 'dllfile'
HK Root is for putting in valid file extensions what they are and the default way to open them.
SO If you look there IS a key for "*" (all files)
however I can't find anything relating to norton on there

Nice reg script, vass. I just put a shortcut to regsvr32.exe in my sendto folder, but I can't unregister dlls that way 'cause it won't pass the /u argument.
