| beep codes? CPU fried? Help Please.
I just picked up a chaintech 7AJA2 mobo. Installed my t-bird,HSF,128 mb ram ( 1 stick) and my AGP Nvidia vanta. I get 1 long beep, and 4 or 5shorts, can't count that fast. Does this mean the CPU is fried?
It has Award BIOS.
Thanx In advance.

you could take out the vid card, try and see if the beeps are different
or if it beeps for ram, try taking it out, and seeing if its different
or take out the cpu and see if the beeps are different
dunno what, if any help that would be.. you could always find a manual

Award BIOS Beep Codes:
Beeps ,Error Message ,Description
1long, 2 short = Video adapter error Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly.
Repeating (endless loop) Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory.
1long, 3short = No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card.
High frequency beeeps while running Overheated CPU Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow.
Repeating High/Low CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.

I dont think the PC would beep at all if the CPU was bad or not installed properly

| Actually it does beep when there is no CPU, or it is fried, or it isn't seated properly. That's one cool feature of the BIOS beep codes, if you know what the beeps tell you, then there is a very good chance you'll find what's wrong with the PC |

actually the easiest way to know if your CPU is fried, is by that luscious barbeque aroma that emanates from your case....
