I have an Athlon 900 running windows 98SE that's constantly freezing up, several times a day. It seems to freeze on just about any program even occasionally on startup. How do I find out whats causing this? If it's a driver problem or something how do I know which one is the troublemaker? |

My first, ( off the cuff) suggestion is that it's because it's an AMD Proc ( AMD Hater here, I know, but they make life so arduous for me,)
Secondly, what boards do you have running and what is the mobo ?

Happened to me. Lemme guess, you installed about 2 or more (7) drivers at the same time? Go back and reinstall each one and RESART after it. The culprit for me was the video driver and the Via driver.
Upgrade Video card, chipset driver, BIOS, sound, and do a windows update. Also, try the speed tweaks over at www.speedguide.net , as they actaully made my system more stable (go figure ).
If not that, check to see that your processor isn't overheating (if it is, open the case and feel the proc. If you can't keep your finger on it for more than 3 seconds, something isn't right.) |

That was totally uncalled for, I've installed about 3 dozen AMD processors in the last couple of years and do NOT have problems associated with the CPU.
FYI, I have the same issues with Intel CPU's as with Cyrix, AMD or Intel.
I suggest cooling the anti-AMD comments.
As far as the problem at hand, I too suggest the same as Redwolf, with the exception of the Winders update, do them with extreme caution, ALWAYS observe the "read-me" text and then only install the updates that are needed for your situation. |

BTW, I mean the cable tweaks at speedguide.
If you want system tweaks (some of these REALLY help!), head on over to www.pureperformance.com . Our resident Beemer also has a page set up with a bunch of great Windows tips.
Good luck. |
