| Logging off taking too long
Recently, when I either want to reboot or turn my computer off, the logging off stage of things takes a really long time (in computer-time land, that is), and I can't figure out why. I did install the latest version of Zone Alarm (free version) last week, but I don't turn my computer off everyday, or even stick around the room necessarily when I do, so I don't know if that is when the problem started. Any ideas? I have XP HE.
TIA
edit: I tried turning off ZA before I shut it down, but that made no difference.

I don't know why you're system is taking so long to shut down, but anyone this affable and reasonable should have had at least a couple of qualified techs respond with some suggestion by now Hint, Hint..............
Why XP? Don't have a compaq, do you?
I solved all my computer problems( similar to the one you're
hexed with now ) by assembling my own computer 2, computer 3, computer 4 and now computer 5. When one ( and its happened so many times) turns on me as yours has, I can now laugh at it.
No, I'm not rich, just resourceful.
Read your ideas on MJ. You're exactly right and more, which begs
the question of the decade: Why is the Gov so hell bent on slandering and/or eradicating via LIES the casual, respectful, and
perposeful use of MJ?

Do you have it set to clear the page file at shutdown? That can cause it to take what seems like forever.

Angela: do you have an NVIDIA graphics card?
If YES, these might help you: Click Me Click Me Too
Good Luck,

ClubMed--
Thanks so much for the suggestions! I do have an NVIDIA graphics card, but that fix didn't help. Your second link (the registry editing one) did help some. Sorry it took me so long to try these. |

Nvidia card? I have 5 nvidias and praise the name in my sleep. I had no idea nvidia cards could cause shut down problems, but come to think of it, this comp tries everything it can to develop a driver conflict, driver haywire Hang/bluescreen/reboot by itself. Angela's problem is not really her video card but her unresolved
sibling conflicts which left her disoriented and suseptible to Compaq Salespersons. I know. Believe me. Through this forum,
Angela and I were engaged to be married last saturday.
