I just built a new system with a K7s5a with on board sound.
Couldn't get the onboard sound to work and couldn't get a sound card to work either.
I'm using the Infinity speakers that came with my old Aptiva. There is just one line going back to the computer. There are no lights on the speakers. Do Mobos and sound cards require amplified speakers?
If so, how do you tell if your speakers are amplified? |

In my experiences, speakers that are amplified need a power supply: wall transformer. It plugs into one of the speakers.
The mobo manual will tell you if the sound output is line level output; line level output always needs amplification. |

In order for you speakers to be amplified, they must have a power source. either AC or batteries. if you have not AC cord extending from the speakers then try looking for a battery compartment.
If you see neither then they are not amplified.
If you have a pair of headphones from a walkman, you can plug them into the speaker jack on the motherboard. this will at least verify that the board is doing its job. If the volume is low then it will need an amplifier...

Thanks
They're not amplified and they need to be because the headphones work.
Any suggestions for a decent cheap set? |

Any suggestions for a decent cheap set? | How much do you want to spend? Would you like a simple 2-speaker desk set or a 5-speaker set with alot of power or something in between. |

Thanks for all of the help!!!!
Bought a cheap ($20) set of 3 speakers (Cyber Acoustics CA-3080) at Circuit City.
They're fine. A little booming on the base.
Are there any controls or equalizers for the onboard sound of a K7S5A? |

Equalization is not a mobo function - use WinAmps Eq (or XMMS, if Linux) for the times you play back via them, but otherwise, I know of no other equalizer functionality built into any OS. |
