| Viewsonic Monitor
I have this monitor .... a Viewsonic 17GS I'm trying to fix a PC for a friend and so I pull out this back-up monitor ... you know the one that still worked but was replaced for a better one?
So I plug it onto this other PC and the green light just blinks ~ and if you put your ear to the back of it you can hear a slight clicking (in time with the blinking light) but nothing comes up on the screen at all.
Any Ideas ?

Sound like it is getting no signal from the video card. Do you know for a fact that the monitor works? If so, check the video card and make sure it is seated. I am assuming that the PC is powered on and seems to be booting ok. |

unless you have some experience fixing monitors and tv, i wouldn't recommend you try to do this yourself. (and the fact that you're posting this question would seem to indicate that you're not an expert).
there are some high voltage capacitors inside that can give you a nasty shock, so beware. besides, unless you're a service tech ordering replacement parts isn't exactly easy. |

Are you fixing the PC or the monitor?? I read it like you are fixing a PC and took out the backup monitor to test the PC but the monitor is not getting the signal.
So back to the PC, let us know. |

I'm not very good at the brail method(s) of PC repair. |

I have a viewsonic 14 incher (I'm almost positive thats what it is)....I'm at work, can't see it now.
It does the same thing... Sometimes it will blink, and other times I have to turn on the PC , THEN plug in the monitor to come on....NO idea what causes this.....

If it means anything ... I looked at the plug that goes into the video connection ..... The Pins look like this
That didn't work .... so there's three rows of five pins ... this one seems to be missing the second pin on the second row.
Is a pin missing? or is this just done by Viewsonic?
I have another (old as dirt) monitor and it seems to be lacking three pins of the fifteen pin diamond pattern. |

Ya, crack the box and check the cards and cables for a secure fit. Does it sound like the hard drive is spinning up? |

I just now restarted everything with the monitor NOT pluged into the PC and got the same results.
And ~ something just came up so I'll have to drop this for right now ..... After I crack the box and check the connections and stuff I'll post here a gain .... in this thread .... thanks for the pointer. |
