    Arrow DVD Players

I have a Asus laptop which I thought it had a DVD player... it doesn't. My bad. I'm looking to get a external DVD player. The prices ranger form $40 through to $1000. What makes the difference in prices. I see the range of "x" goes from 8 through to 24. Not sure what that is all about. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Mostly profit margin. The 8 to 24 is read and write speed. If the price range is around $100 and up, it should be a BluRay capable drive, too.
