| 1st Post... V2 SLI help please
My 1st time here. I followed the rules and did a word search on sli, but still have a few questions.
I have an IBM Aptiva P-pro 166
Windows 98(not SE)
V2-1000 12mb which is working great.
I got a second matching card as a gift, but I don't know how to install it for SLI. I saw a reference to a special "SLI cable". Is this different than the loop through cable that came with the board for standard installation?
If so, do I just install the second card and loop them together in series, or do I need some special splitter thing?
I have no documentation or disks, but was able to use the downloaded drivers for Win98.
Thanks for your help. |

Ya definatly need the SLI cable, its about 1inch long, as seen in the link GB posted.
If ya don't have one, i'm pretty sure ya can make one with a floppy cable by reversing a few wires. If ya want i can have a look at my SLI cable and tell ya which wires have to be reversed on the floppy cable.

Here ya go, basically get an old (working) floppy cable, remove one of the end connectors carefully (so you can reuse this connector).
You want all cables to go straight to the other connector to the same pin numbers e.g. pin1 to pin1, pin2 to pin2 etc.... EXCEPT FOR THE MIDDLE 4 WIRES, THESE MUST GO FROM PIN 16 TO PIN19, PIN17 TO PIN 18, PIN18 TO PIN17, PIN19 TO PIN 16. Then the rest of the pins to their corresponing pin, e.g. pin20 to pin20, pin21 to pin21, etc.......
To do the reversing of pins 16 to 19, carefully just split the cable down the middle 4 wires, then turn the 4 wires over so there is a twist. Then replace the connector onto the wires, make sure the cable is long enuff to reach to both cards but not too long as it may cause interfirence.....
The diagram should help explain what i am talking about.
Hope this helps, & good luck.
