No IDE?

Gday Folks.

OK. I was given some orphans.
Mostly old AT pentiums and other junk.

But amongst them was an Intel BI440ZX mobo, wearing a socket 366 Celery.

So I made a pizza box setup with it, just to see if it was alive.
It posts, and will see a floppy.
But will not see either IDE's.

Tried different 'known working' cables, and drives [both HD and CD], reset the bios, go into bios settings to try auto detect, nothing...
Fdisk finds nothing, [fair enuff if the bios doesn't find anything]

All I know of the board, is that, it was run with a dead CPU fan.
Tried 'Microscope' [diag proggi] on it. Reports 'all' alive.

But no joy with the IDE's.

Any thoughts?

Yeah I know... Bin It!... But,... it would make a cow...

Buy an IDE controller. Since it's beyond a 300mhz, It'll definately have a PCI slot. Any good ole RAID controller should work.

It is possible that they are dead even thought the diag says differently. You've tried everything I know to try (reset bios and different hardware and checked BIOS settings).

I would check the bios, maydb e it has a ide on/off option??

Urr, Doh! Found it!

Yep, like I said an 'orphan.'
Would not work before I pulled the cmos battery.
And not after, either.

What did work was.
"Restore default settings" in the bios.
Re-enabled the IDE's.

Funny I normally "bomb"* strange boards when I get them.
So you can start from a known place.

The screwed up settings, were prolly the reason, it was abandoned in the first place.

Oh well. Fixed now. Another 'Cow' on the way.
