| new case, broken comp
Hey guys, I just got my new aluminum case, but after unhooking everything and hooking it up into my new case it doesn't work. I hit the power button and I here everything turning on, but my monitor just sits there on the "computer not connected" screen. I tried switching video cards, didn't help. I tried booting it up with just my processor, ram, video card, floppy drive, and keyboard, still no luck. I'm really frustrated right now, I don't know what could be wrong. The only thing I haven't tried is a new processor, but wouldn't it give me a weird beep if the processor didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
My comp is:
AMD 2000+ with Volcano 7+ cooling it
a WD 120gb and WD 20gb
zipcd 8x burner
512ddr pc2700 ram
Giga-byte GA-7VRXP
MSI GF4 ti4400 vivo
300W power supply
SB live value

Double ck your RAM and make sure it's well seated..
If you have 2 sticks try booting with just one (and try each one individually) I've had the same symptoms and it was RAM. |

I just took out the CMOS battery to clear it. How long do I need to wait until I put it back in and boot up? I have 1 stick of ram and I triple checked that at my house, so I know it's not that, wouldn't the mobo beep a lot if that was the case? The thing is, whenever I try to boot up it doesn't even post. The monitor just acts like there isn't a comp there. I thought it would atleast show that screen if something was messed up. Anyways keep thinking of ideas guys. I think i posted in the wrong section too, my bad.

I would look to see if the MOBO is shorting against the case. Could be that simple. Video and ram will give beep code if they're not connected.Did you pull the cpu out of the board ? And sometimes the HSF gets crooked an d it won't post, just a few things to check.
Good Luck

I don't know how long it will take to clear your CMOS by pulling the battery. Your mobo will have a jumper on it that you can pull off, and short two pins to clear it. The instructions should be in the manual that came with your mobo.
Normally, the jumper will be labeled "CMOS" or "JBAT". There will be three pins, with the jumper across two of them. Pull it off, and move it (usually to the left) over to cover the far-left pin, and the center pin. Leave it there for a few seconds, and then put it back.
Hope that makes sense. |

Only takes a quick second to clear cmos, i just take it out and count 2 or 3 seconds then pop it back in place.
I second to check the standoffs on the case to see if you are not shorting out on case. Have you tried booting the mobo on a phonebook? |

Well, what thud said, except I have seen mobo's that require you to press the power button after after you put the jbat or cmos jumper on pin 2-3, then it will clear it. If the instruction tell you otherwise then do as it say's.

Try disconnecting the reset lead....maybe the switch is shorted or damaged. |

Sigh, I took the mobo out, unplugged every led except for the PWR one, I put my video card, cpu +hsf (after taking the hsf and reconnecting it), floppy drive, hdd with windows xp, ram, and placed them on top of a phone book and powered them all up. I tried to boot up the computer, and I can hear and see everything starting up, the fans are all moving, the mobo's little light is on but nothing appears on the screen. I've tried 2 different video cards and 2 different monitors but I can't get it to post. I tried resetting the CMOS but it didn't do anything, I dunno wtf could be wrong i've tried everything I can think of. Thanks for the suggestions so far.
