Yes you can. Install 9X onto C:
After that, boot with the 2K disk and choose "Repair".
Login to your 2K install. You'll have to know the Administrator password, which I'm sure you do, and choose to "FIXMBR".
This should allow you to choose either 9X or 2K again during bootup.
You can find more info about 2K Recovery Console here |

depends on how bad win 98 is messed up. corrupt MBR and/or files (cab errors) may prevent win from loading over itself.

if that happens.. just go in and delete explorer from the windows directory of the 98 install.. windows 98 normaly will install then over itself.. but he shouldn't have that problem.. Evil has him pretty well set up.. but who can tell with the old 9X windows..

When he reinstalls Windows98 its going to overwrite the mbr of the C:\ Drive. How's he going to boot into Windows 2000? That's the only question I have. You can boot from the Windows 2000 recovery disk and run FIXMBR from the recovery console but that's about the only thing i can think of him doing. Feel free to prove me wrong though..

physically disconnecting the D: drive maybe will allow 98 to install.
it all depends on how bad the corruption is.
murphy's law always got me when I tried to skip on the tried and true method
I hope goldxx lets us know what did/didnot work |
