Bumped into someone the other day who was having a problem with their email setup for their business, I said I would come and have a look, unfortunatly I have not been able to fix. The problem is:
This company says they have their own Domain "Nptoli" which is hosted through their ISP, they use a Dial up account.
They have 1 server which runs Windows 95, Wingate 2.1 with gatekeeper and the mail server is Mail Beemer.
The email address evan@natpli.co.nz the email from this address is not being sent to the PC they wish it to, but rather to another PC.
There are 3 other PC's on the network all running windows 95 and Exchange for email. The PC that is supposed to be recieving the email for evan@nptoli.co.nz I looked at and created a mailbox service with evan's name on it however it could not find his mailbox, how do I create a mailbox for evan on the server?
or if someone could explain to me how I can get email addressed to evan@natoli to goto this PC rather than another PC on the network.
Could I even setup a filter on the PC that recieves his emails to automatically forward them to his pc via pc name or IP?
Question 2.
How would I setup more email accounts under Exchange or the mail server Mail Beemer?

Are you trying to tell me they have Exchange set up on Windows 95 on 4 pcs?!!?
You're sure you're not talking about MS Outlook!? There are 3 other PC's on the network all running windows 95 and Exchange for email.
Is this MS Exchange 5.5?
Am I to understand that he has 4 "servers" running windows 95 and MS Exchange 5.5 (huh?) and another mail server running this other thingie called Mail Beemer?!!? lol
If thats the case no wonder nothing works

1 server, 3 other PCs (not servers) all PCs are running Exchange 5, except the server which has Exchange 4. I thought it was all weird as well, but works fine except for this email setup thingy that they require me to do
and I dont want to have to change there setup as it would be too much of a mission at the moment and they dont have any backup pc's they copuld use in the meantime |

ok.. wait
One thing that M I G H T make more sense...
If they're just using the Exchange Inbox Assistant to get email... I can't EVEN imagine each PC has its own full blown exchange server... running on win95 I didnt' even know exchange did run on win95
Sorry not trying to delay the fix, simply trying to understand the network.. cause they borked it!!! lol
Hmm regarding exchange 4 I have no clue, I use exchange 5.5 at work so no idea what 4 looks like |

You have to drill down to the container you want to put the mailbox in.
In Exchange 5.5 you'll probably have up at the top left of the tree "ORGANIZATION"
Then below that a site with whatever name.
I'm thinking you should have a recipients container under that. From there considering the small size of their organization they probably wouldnt' have any subcontainers.
Click on the Recipients container, and go up to the file menu and New mailbox should be available to click.
With mail beemer, no clue. not even sure what that is |

Like Vass, I don't think Exchange server even runs on Win9x.
There isn't enough information for me to understand. I hate to make assumptions and inquires when our terminology may not even match.
My initial questions is about who hosts the actual email server (the one with the MX record pointing to it)?
If their ISP actually hosts the email server then how are the clients configured in regards to accessing the email account at the ISP? Does theis Mail Beemer program pull all related messages from the ISP in some manner?
I have to leave for serveral hours but these are the initial things I would have to understand to even try help you. |

vert to find where the mx record points to ...
from command line type
nslookup <hit return>
it will prompt you with only a '>'
type 'set type=mx'
it will prompt you with only a '>'
type <their domain name> 'natpli.co.nz'
it should have a result similar to this (with less results but similar)
This is what I got when I did yahoo.com
Non-authoritative answer:
yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = mx2.mail.yahoo.com
yahoo.com MX preference = 5, mail exchanger = mx4.mail.yahoo.com
yahoo.com MX preference = 1, mail exchanger = mx1.mail.yahoo.com
mx2.mail.yahoo.com internet address = 64.157.4.82
mx2.mail.yahoo.com internet address = 64.157.4.84
mx4.mail.yahoo.com internet address = 216.136.129.17 |
