Having a bit of a problem with the above in that when the NIC is installed the BIOS doesn't detect either CD drive (nor are they accessible via Windows. All works fine without the NIC. I've tried it in different PCI slots, same problem. I've disabled both COM ports. Any ideas anyone?

Problem solved. Dodgy NIC - swapped it and all is now OK

Yeah... get a different nic. We've had lots of issues with Netgear nics here where I work. A very common problem is suddenly for some reason the Netgear (and this has happened with both the 310TX and the 311) just simply won't work anymore. Remove it and stick it in another machine and it works just fine, and another nic works just great in the first machine. But for some reason, even removing and reinstalling (even changing PCI slots!) won't make the Netgear work right again in the first machine. What's causing the problem? I have no idea.

Hmm... I've got several 310TX & 311's going here, and never had a problem. (Crosses fingers...)

But if one comes up, I'll know what to try.

Anybody have any idea why this would work?

I have 310TX as well...never a prob!

all my machines have the 311 bar one and they have never give me any problems
