| Please help needed...!
Well, a close friend recomended me this board, i pray for anyone could help me a bit...
2 weeks ago i decided to upgrade my system:
Duron 650
Gigabyte GA-7IXE4 (just compatible with 200 FBS)
320Mb Ram@133
I know it's crappy, but i dodn't have much money, so i try to stand as long as i can with the stuff i can afford... The fact is that i check the Gigabyte .pdf table (recenltky updated) to see what kind of processor could fit my board, and find that the 1100 and 1300 duron ones were aproved... It's nearly impossible to find a 200 FBS Athlon, so i decide to get the duron.
I read the FAQ and instruction carefully, and successfully update the bios to F9 - the late one.
I bought the 1300 one and install, but the system doesn't starts... i wasn't even able to swich off the cpu. Then i try the 1100 (after arguing with the shop, they don't't take returns...)
But the 1100 got the same result.
So i'm just asking: if that processors doesn't work, why did the people of Mebagyte include them as fully compatible? Now i feel like shite, truly deveived and w/o anyone to ask for help. The shop won't take any more returns, and now i got no money and no upgrade. It can sound stupid, but i can't spend many money in my comp, and no that i finally managed to save, i have that...
Well, wish you could help me, i'll try not sound pathetic in my next post...
Give me a hand if you can, and if not just thnxs for reading...
Seeya! |

Hi desperate
What is your PSU and how many Watts can it afford?
You know, the PSU might fail to operate a double speed CPU all of the sudden, if it doesn't has enough Wattage ..
Can you borrow another PSU and try it?
BTW, Welcome to TechIMO |

OK, let's start with the simple stuff first: Try clearing the CMOS.
This normally consists of shorting a jumper on your motherboard. It's very simple, and the instructions should be in the manual that came with your motherboard.
You can do this on most new motherboards by holding down the "insert" key when you reboot, but I don't know if that's the case with your particular mobo. Try it first, and see what happens. If that doesn't work, check your mobo manual for instructions for info on clearing the CMOS.
Welcome to TechIMO, and let us know how it goes.
~Edit: Damn, Ken types fast. What is the power rating on your power supply (PSU)? |

If you can't find the jumper try this:
A simple way to clear the cmos is to slip a piece of thin cardboard under the battery contact and wait 10 minutes.
Then try to start using the choice "default settings " or something like that.

According to the user manual for your board I found on Gigabyte's website:
JP3: Clear BIOS
Short pins 1-2 to clear bios
Move jumper to pins 2-3 for normal setting
JP3 is located next to the battery on your motherboard.

By "won't start" do you mean nothing at all on the screen? Do you have a flashing cursor? Anything?
If it won't lite off after clearing the BIOS,
try starting with only your video card and one stick of ram. (and your hard drive or a boot disk)
A used computer parts place should have a power supply pretty cheap.

Hey guys,
Is it possible that with the updated pdf desperate mentioned there might also be an updated bios that supports the faster processors he is trying to use?
I'm going to gigabytes sight right now to see what I can find.
U.G.
I guess I should have checked the specs. for the board first. Sorry to jump the gun. It shows 1.0 ghz+ support in the manual.
So forget I ever said anything. lol
