Hey one more thing I have a laptop that is running W2K and it is fine no problems. It does not have a DVD durner in it thou.
My mothers computer is the same as my desktop ASUS P4B533-E w/2.0gig processor, 1gig ram, and it was running a mirror raid system setup and mine was a RAID performance (marriage) setup. She has no DVD burner either, but she got the NTLOADER was missing.
I took the mirrored drive and used it for C: drive and after some tinkering with the recovery console got it back up with no information loss. (Thank the Lord becouse she would have kicked my ass into the next solar system).
I dunno, I mean why my laptop ProStar w/40gig maxtor HDD, 512meg ram, an ATI grphics card, CD-RW, and no problems. At one time she had a Viewsonic 19" flat screen on her, a HP990csi printer, a USB mouse, and some other devices and working that thing like a laptop with NO problems.
This is why i am so burnt out becouse of the NTloader (NTLDR) missing on MY system and the others are working fine.??? I dunno - I really do need a true fix.
This sight is very exceptional and full of great thoughts but i read EVERY one of the fixes and tried them all.
NOW i can only get past post to recieve a error message " someing something Promlem on line 1564 of F:/nt/bla bla bla and F: was my RAID drive.
I want to build another system using a 800fsb MOBO and a new processor with RAMBUS technology but not untill the software issue is fixed permantly.
I thank all of you you have posted here on your triles and good/bad luck it is a great sight.
I am a newbie here but i have been on this for 3 weeks now and MICROSOFTS fix is not for me. (doe not work)
Have a Blessed life all Take of each other that is all WE have.

I am having the same problem although with a twist that I have not seen people talk about yet. I have installed XP Pro on my machine and I always get the message in boot-up that the NTLDR is missing. I have tried y'alls suggestions and have yet to find one that works. I would like to blame this one on my mobo since it has caused me other inconveniences, but I don't have the $$$ to replace it yet so I have to fix it or deal with the quirk of having it only boot up as long as I have the XP Pro CD in one of the CD-Rom drives. As long as that sucker's in their the machine will boot up and run like there were no problems.
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
Soyo K7V Dragon Plus
256mb of Kinston DDR PC2100
6.7G + 20.5G HD
Pioneer DVD-115
Samsung 248B CD-RW
Floppy
That's my set up. The bios is current and I have no idea as to what is making my machine f&*$ up. Thanx.

I discovered that in my Bios the boot order was set to floppy, cd-rom, hdd1. The way the bios is set up it is easy to miss the option of hdd0. I made the change and fixed the problem. |

| I wanna join the crowd also
Yes, I too had the missing ntldr after I erased it by mistake. After reading through most of the lamenting, I was not sweating bullets like when I first started reading this thread at the beginning. I took my time and read through and tried alot of options offered.
Here I was, I foolishly deleted that exact same file and had no boot disk for Win xp home edition made. Now, I was thinking about all the text documents I had on the single drive system and the possibility of losing them all. Trust me, there just wasn't enough Rolaids left in my bottle.
I wanted no part of having to format the whole drive and lose everything. So after trying a few of the options provided in this thread unsuccessfully, I opted out for the least costly alternative.
I reinstalled windows xp home edition. Sure I got to reinstall most of my programs, but at least I saved my documents I have created over time. Now at least my computer boots again and I have my documents back - safe and sound - and of course, a little work ahead of me reinstalling some software.
Don't know, but this seems like dejavu all over again. I know at some point in my computing history I have gone this (missing ntldr) route before. At least with forums like this on the internet there is a good feeling knowing that others are out there to offer help.
Thank You! |

I reloaded windows as I needed my comp for business. I bought a laptop that came with xp, my laptop screen cracked so i don't use it any more. is it legal for me to have that on my store comp? or am I supposed to buy a new copy? | You technically own the licence for the single copy of the version of XP (Home or Pro) loaded on your laptop. If you format the laptop hard drive, you still own that licence, and should be able to legally install it on another machine, but only once, mind.
Also keep in mind that the licence will not cover you installing a bootleg copy of XP Pro on your machine if your lappy had Home. However if you do have Pro on your lappy, then you can use a 'backed up' (in most countries it's legal to make a single backup of a CD or peice of software for personal use, as long as it is not distributed to other individuals) version of Pro to install, if you do not own the original CD, as you own the licence to own it, if that makes sense |

I got the very same problem, but I was able to solve it.. I'm using Win2k and I have just updated my BIOS and loaded setup defaults for it. After that I was geting the message like "NTLDR missing. Press any key to restart". So I thought that the problem was some how linked to the bios. All I needed to do was change the hard disk type and mode setting to "auto" from Standard Cmos Setup (instead of using ide hdd auto detection!), and that solved the problem.. The main thing was that even if the hard disk mode was in auto-mode, but Type was set to LBA (instead of auto), then it comed up with the "NTLDR missing" message. And by the way, I checked that my ntldr wasn't missing or corrupted at the time of problem was on, so I didn't need to copy it. It just couldn't be found because of wrong hard disk setup, thats all!
Hope this can help you others to solve the problem |

Thanks for your help all.
Edit: My disk is formated in NTFS |
I did the same above but I got my ntldr from \servicepackinstalls\i386 where windowsupdater put my SP1 for XP when it downloaded it for installation. I just copied it over to my root of c: and I boot fine now. I did have to run FIXBOOT to first get into my system but it would not work after I rebooted unless I copied the file over above. |
